Minister Manchevski Attended the Traditional Vevchani Carnival: Criticism Expressed Through Masks Encourages Us To Be a Better Government [1]

Vevchani, January 13th, 2019

Today, the Minister of Information Society and Administration, Damjan Manchevski, attended and spoke on the traditional Vevchani Carnival 2019.

As Minister Manchevski noted, the Vevchani Carnival is a symbol of democracy, satire and criticism in Macedonia.

“Thousands of masks have proliferated on this scene in Vevchani in the past hundreds of years. We, the politicians, are the most frequent target and inspiration for those masks, and I am convinced that I will recognize some of my colleagues, perhaps even myself, among those masks. And that is the way it should be. The Vevchani Carnival is a reflection of our reality and of the policies of every government, and the current government is no exception. I am sure that many of the masks will raise a smile on my face, but will also make me reflect on our shortcomings and on what we, as a Government, can correct in our work. Ultimately, criticism is there to instruct us how to create a better government”, said Minister Manchevski.

Sasho Jankoski, the host and mayor of Vevchani also organized a cocktail as part of the Vevchani Carnival, attended by Minister Manchevski, Deputy-Minister of Local Self-Government Dejan Pavleski, and Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Macedonia, H.E. Rachel Galloway.
